On July 12, 2024, Ms. Trisuli Traisoranakul, Secretary to the Interior Minister and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Interior, shared that Thailand has introduced four new visa updates. These changes are aimed at attracting more international visitors and boosting the country's economy.

These updates are in line with the Sritha Thavisin government's plan to boost tourism by making travel easier for foreigners.

Here are the four major announcements:

1. Visa Waiver Expansion:
Thailand has expanded the list of countries whose citizens can travel without a visa for up to 60 days for tourism, business or short-term business purposes. The list now includes 93 countries, up from 57.

2. More Countries Eligible for Visa on Arrival (VOA):
The list of countries whose citizens can obtain VOA has grown from 19 to 31.

3. New Destination Thailand Visa (DTV):
A new visa for tourists and remote workers, which allows a stay of up to 180 days and is valid for 5 years. This visa is perfect for freelancers, remote workers, and those interested in activities such as Thai boxing, cooking classes, sports training, medical treatments, and art or music events.

4. Extended stay for students and workers:
Foreign students with a non-immigrant ED visa can now stay in Thailand for an additional year after graduation to find work or pursue other activities.

Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has reviewed and signed these announcements, which will take effect from July 15, 2024, after being published in the Royal Gazette.
