Jurassic World fans can eagerly await the franchise's newest film, arriving in theaters in a year. This latest film will reboot the series, starring actors such as Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Rupert Friend and Luna Blaise. The story follows three teenagers and three adults struggling to survive on the island.
Filming is set to take place in Thailand as well as studios in Malta and the United Kingdom. Shooting in Thailand will begin this week and continue until mid-July. Locations include Bangkok, Trang, Phang Nga, Phuket and Chiang Mai, as well as the Huai To Waterfall in Khao Phanom Bencha National Park.
Atthaphon Charoenchansa, director-general of Thailand's Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, said Thailand is "honored" to host the filming. He emphasized the importance of not disrupting the natural environment, stressing that the crew must comply with all relevant laws and regulations to minimize environmental impact. Charoenchansa expects the filming to be environmentally friendly, with outdoor set equipment causing minimal damage.
Reflecting on past experiences, Charoenchansa noted the over-tourism and environmental damage caused by the filming of The Beach at Phi Phi Island in 1999, which caused Maya Bay to be temporarily closed for restoration. He reassured that most scenes in the new Jurassic World movie would be filmed in the studio or using CGI, causing minimal damage to nature. Officials were briefed on the use of props, such as artificial reefs, to ensure that "nature will be left untouched."
This upcoming film will be the seventh installment in the Jurassic Park series, which began with Steven Spielberg's 1993 film and includes two sequels. It also continues the Jurassic World trilogy that began in 2015.
