Drug network exposed: cooperation between Thailand and Indonesia

Drug network exposed: cooperation between Thailand and Indonesia- Drugs, Thailand, Indonesia,

Thai and Indonesian authorities are actively investigating a large drug smuggling network following the arrest and extradition of Chaowalit Thongduang, also known as Pang Na-Nahod, from Indonesia to Thailand.

Lt. Gen. Panurat Lakbun, announced that the ONCB has invited Indonesian authorities to its office in Din Daeng to exchange information. The purpose of this meeting is to collect important details about Chaowalit's drug network.

The goal is to identify the middlemen who move drugs from the northern region of Thailand to the south, from where they are then sent to Indonesia. Additionally, the investigation aims to uncover those who move drugs from Laos to southern Thailand and further to Indonesia.

“We are reviewing financial transactions and other evidence. If connections are established, we may request arrest warrants for those involved in drug trafficking. "There are about 100 people connected to Chaowalit's drug network," Lt. Gen. Panurat said.

Thailand has received a list of targets within the network from Indonesian authorities. Financial records, communication logs, witness statements and asset verification are needed for a comprehensive investigation. So far, there is no direct evidence linking Chaowalit to drug trafficking in Indonesia, but his network appears to have significant involvement.

Chaowalit is a well-known figure in his local community, and some of the financial transactions may be for educational or community assistance, which needs further investigation. It appears that his network is composed of only Thai individuals, while the Indonesian side consists only of Indonesians, with no involvement of other nationalities.

Regarding the prosecution of Freddy Pratama, a major drug trafficker wanted by Indonesian authorities, Pol. Lt Gen Panurat said the name came to light through media reports and Indonesia had provided details to the ONCB to assist in the case. He stressed the importance of discretion to avoid giving information to suspects.
