Direct flights from Phnom Penh to New Delhi: Promoting tourism and trade between Cambodia and India

Cambodia Angkor Air, the national airline, is launching a direct flight between Phnom Penh and New Delhi this Sunday, which is expected to increase the number of tourists, investors and business travellers from India.

The inaugural flight will depart from Phnom Penh International Airport on Sunday afternoon with an official ceremony. Representatives of the airline, senior officials of the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation (SSCA) and other prominent figures will attend the event. According to Sin Chansrevutha, Under Secretary of State and spokesperson of the SSCA, this new route will provide convenient travel for tourists, investors and business travellers between Cambodia and India. "The direct connection will significantly increase the flow of tourists and business travellers between Cambodia and India," he said.

The launch of Cambodia Angkor Air's direct flights between Phnom Penh and New Delhi is a major achievement, raising hopes of increased tourism, investment and business travel from India. The airline sees this route as a strategic move to join India's fast-growing outbound travel market, offering four weekly flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, catering to both leisure and business travellers. Chhaya Sivlin, president of the Cambodia Association of Travel Agents, also sees it as a strategic opportunity to attract the fast-growing Indian travel market. At a promotional event in New Delhi last month, Cambodian Ambassador to India Kuong Ko emphasised that the direct flight would facilitate Indian investment in Cambodia.

Additionally, Chansrevutha said India's Indigo airline plans to launch direct flights from New Delhi to Siem Reap, home to the world's largest Hindu-Buddhist religious monument. These flights are scheduled to begin on October 27, with seven flights a week. According to the Ministry of Tourism, 20,560 Indian tourists visited Cambodia in the first three months of this year, marking a 25 per cent increase over the previous year.
