In a bid to invigorate tourism during the low season, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is gearing up to launch a project promoting 72 must-do activities across the country in early July. This initiative coincides with the celebration of His Majesty King Vajiralongkorn's sixth cycle birthday anniversary on July 28.
TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool revealed that these activities will span five categories: Muay Thai, food, culture, clothing, and shows, offering travelers a diverse array of experiences to enjoy.
Moreover, TAT aims to collaborate with private agencies to roll out extensive campaigns aimed at boosting domestic tourism during the low season. This includes supporting tour bus operators, promoting seminar trips, and encouraging government officials to explore domestic destinations.
Recognizing the preference of Middle Eastern tourists for Thailand during the rainy season, TAT plans to increase flights from this region. Thapanee also emphasized that geopolitical factors in the Middle East are not expected to adversely affect Thai tourism.
Looking ahead, TAT is strategizing a campaign to attract Chinese tourists during the National Day in early October. Festivals in key destinations like Yaowarat Road, Hat Yai district in Songkhla, Phuket, and Ratchaburi will be highlighted to entice visitors.
With an anticipated influx of 39 million foreign arrivals this year, Thailand expects to generate a revenue of 3.5 trillion THB (approximately 95.62 billion USD), underscoring the resilience and allure of its tourism sector.
