The intent of this post is to explain you the whole process of procuring a visa so you can apply in an independent manner. The procedure is easy and flexible for the countries I have visited so far. Please be aware of fraudulent deals charging you outrageously.

Russia Visa

Getting Russian visa is easy and the following are the requirements:

  • Colored passport copy (back & front page on A4 size sheet only)
  • Invitation letter
  • Original passport
  • Application form
  • Hotel bookings (Not mandatory)
  • Air tickets (Not mandatory)

Russian visa example given as under:

Let’s talk about how to obtain an Invitation Letter –Keep in mind that you cannot skip this process. Your visa will not be approved until you have an invitation letter.

You can contact your hotel requesting for the invitation letter. However, they generally do not approve. In such a situation there are certain companies associated with tourism boards who can save you. Pay $20 and request them to provide an invitation letter by filling up a form on their site with the following information:

  • Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Personal Email ID
  • Places of visit (Moscow- Saint Petersburg)
  • Travel period ( June 15- June 30)
  • Passport number
  • Hotel address of all locations

Once you fill-up the form and make the payment, someone will acknowledge your request and will deliver the invitation letter in 4 hours. I got my invitation in 30 minutes by email. These websites are safe to use and quite efficient in handling your queries.

Generally, the Russian embassy insists on contacting visa centers such as VFS, but you can also apply directly to them. VFS will have an additional service charge of  Rs.1500 or $18-20 whereas, applying through embassy can save extra bucks for you.

The total cost of visa procurement is Rs. 3700 approx OR $51.64.

Important: Once you arrive at the airport, the immigration officers will issue you an immigration form/card which you must carry all the times while traveling. It is an important document as your passport. Your hotel will verify it and will register your credentials using the immigration form before check-in. Whether you have booked through Airbnb or have hotel reservations, the owner or hotel staff will perform the registration process on your behalf.
